Permanently importing firearms, ammunition, or other defense articles into the United States is a complicated and paperwork-heavy process that involves multiple government agencies and lots of tariffs, port fees, and a detail-oriented filing process. In general, the ATF Form 6 Part I is the starting point for any importation project. It is this Form that the ATF will [hopefully] approve that will allow the foreign seller/manufacturer to ship the items to the United States, usually by air-mail. After the item(s) have arrived in the United States, they must then clear Customs with a variety of forms and an ATF Form 6A which allows it to be released from the port of entry.
